Hunter's Moon by SaburoX Hunter's Moon by SaburoX
Man. It's been a little too long since I uploaded anything just for the fun of it. According to the file data I started this back in October, which would probably make sense, and never managed to put the finishing touches on it until today. I wanted to do a slightly different take on a werewolf than you usually see. And then made her insanely pregnant because that's what I do and because wolves have litters.

So yeah, enjoy!

Does she attack blubber seals which are grey very fat mammals the size of a very large hippo but have mosasaur-like heads and are related to dolphins?

What's your stance on comments? I mean, I know some artists dislike people who favorite their stuff and never comment, and I decided to favorite this picture, so I thought I might as well ask.

If you or anyone else wanted to favorite without commenting I won't begrudge you that right, but I do like comments in general, the more depth to them the better. If it's just to say "nice job" a favorite would cover that in my mind. If it's something in particular that needs improvement or that I should do more of in the future, I'd like to hear that.

Well, I've followed your art for like years but I've never really had much more to say than 'great job' anyways so I've never really commented since you get flooded with stuff like that anyways. On that note, it's a little surreal talking to you like this after following you for so long and never once talking to you.

I'm aware. I try my hand at art myself.

But really what I mean is like I've been following your stuff for years and in a way it feels like I know you. But in reality, I don't really know you at all. Just an odd thought. Sorry for the slow reply.

Y'know, you are one of my most favorite artist, if not "The" one, with capital T. your amazing talent definitely grew and evolved through the years: The shading, for example, and the outstanding fur texture. Yet I think this pic represent a stage in your development, where you mastered the colors and the shading yet lost the focus on the character.
It seems the darkness around swallow the character and the outer black get mixed with the shades within, making her seem like she doesn't belong to the background. Like it's a picture and not a reality.
Also, although the belly is huge by proportions, it doesn't has a gravity feeling, like it's really massive. I don't refer to the lack of realism, which is fine (and also blessed) by me, but in the comparison to the furry legs, which seems real and alive and have weight to the, the belly just look like someone morph the picture into looking inflated. It may have something with the shading, as they look flat and give it a feeling of 2d, or maybe something else...
I hope I succeeded in explaining myself, as English isn't my primary language.

No I kind of see what you mean. The shading on her skin doesn't have the same level of contrast as on her legs or even her shirt, so it doesn't blend as well.

Don't be so hard on yourself Saburo! You have lots of long time fans, myself included! Even people who don't like werewolves or pregnant mothers-to-be have to accept that this a great pic! You are an artist, remember it!

I do remember that I'm an artist.

You need to remember that being an artist doesn't mean I'm infallible. It means I'm capable of having flaws in my work and that there's always room for improvement or refinement. It means I'm happy to get constructive criticism so that I can learn and grow more as an artist.

I made some mistakes in this piece, and just have to try to do better next time. There's no shame in that. The real shame is people that only demand praise or think they're perfect or trivialize the amount of work or devotion it takes to get so far. An even bigger shame is people that encourage that kind of behavior.

Don't get me wrong. I'm very thankful for all my long time fans. But my long time fans should be able to look back in my gallery and see how much I've improved and use that as a way to see how much more I can improve. My long time fans should know I appreciate people that take the time to look deeper into the stuff I do, for flaws that need improvement, or particularly good points that need reincforcement, rather than giving me shallow praise. My long time fans should be the first and foremost thinking "Wow. I wonder what will happen if he sticks with it and tries even harder? What will his work look like in a year?" and then helping me get there with their comments. I'm glad you like the picture. I really truly am. But I'm just as glad, if not moreso, that someone took the time to notice what's wrong with it.

This has really interesting implications... does she only have the litter when she becomes the wolf? Is she just pregnant with a singleton normally? And if so, what if she goes into labor while a wolf... will she have one human baby who turns into a PACK of wolves when the moon is full?

This is why I don't mind sparkly vampires-- I can't point fingers when it comes to working your fetish into mythology, after all.

I think this is a common problem for werewolf mothers. They avoid transforming until late in their pregnancy then are surprised when their single pregnancy turns into a litter when they adopt their feral form for the first time.

A singleton is the medical term for a baby who's not a multiple. Pregnancies being weirdly complicated in even the simplest event, this word is indeed necessary!

"sparkly vampires"?
shame on your Twilight referance.
you just earned 50 hours of horror movie community service. you have to watch at least 50 hours of horror movies that were made between 1920 and 1968. time off for good behavior if you watch at least 2 vampire movies and 2 werewolf movies. and no, movies with both monsters DON'T count as 1 for both groups, only 1 of the groups. must be completed by Halloween night of 2013.

Heck, in the Mighty Max toon vampires were some kind of shapeshifting Fly monster. A good aversion and embracing of all associated tropes aside. To quote an Xfiles Episode: "There are as many different kinds of vampires as there are cultures that foster their mythos."

In the middle east vampires drink sand and can be killed by finding their bloated bodies and shoving a brick into their mouths. In South America there's the 'Aswang' that drinks the breast milk and life essence of the fetus (when trying to quest for the answers of why miscarriages happen, uneducated cultures tend to jump at an external, supernatural cause). In Chinese folklore the 'hopping' vampire is simply the result of a botched funeral ceremony and can be avoided by holding your breath.

I've always thought that the Twilight Vampires were less vampires and more an entire species of self-perpetuating golems powered by human blood. This would explain why they are constructed like animated hummel figurines @.@''' Less vampires and more 'Magic Robots that require blood as a fuel source, and can perpetuate their construction via transformative bite'.

In all honesty, the vampires themselves aren't that bad. The setting itself isn't that bad.

Its just that the movie and book and characters themselves are terrible, at least to my eye.

If it helps, try watching it with Rifftrax. It makes the movie that much more interetsing! You'll be able to check out their live Rifftrax soon if their kickstarter gets to working.

I'm assuming the effect of the fur creeping up her legs was intentional instead of just patches randomly appearing or the idea that the fur starts from the core and radiates out from there? Well done if that was the intended effect, and well done if it was by accident! It brings to mind the idea of the curse acting similar to a chill in the air that effects the extremities first.

Also, excellent lighting and atmosphere!

Also, also, inb4 stereotypical Tex Avery-style wolf-whistle jokes. >_>

Nah, my idea was to have her generally be more humanoid than lupine, so while her limbs change and she gets a tail, her core remains largely unchanged.

Would she remain bipedal then? I doubt all-fours would be practical for her right now.
